Romance is in the air! Oh wait, that’s just the lovely, fresh scent of all the pine trees around here. Maine may be a land of lakes, but it’s also officially the Pine Tree State, and once you’re here, you can understand why. Rangeley is surrounded by both pine trees forests as well as lakes, ponds, and rivers. In fact, Rangeley actually sits on the eastern shore of Rangeley Lake, between the Androscoggin River and the Kennebec River. If you both love the water, you’ve come to the right spot when you book our Rangeley romantic cabins.

Things to Do Together
If you both love the snow, head to Saddleback Mountain where you can swoosh down the slopes on skis or snowboards, or show off your skating skills. Strap on skis or snowshoes and head out cross-country, with just the sound of your skis breaking the quiet. If there’s no snow, you can still hike along those trails through the forest and along the lake while enjoying the view.
Take a guided kayak or boat trip where you can enjoy the scenery, wildlife and learn about the area too. A boat cruise featuring a colorful sunset out on the water is always romantic, or you can enjoy the scenery from above with a tour of the Rangeley Lakes Region by seaplane. You’ll get a fresh view on the entire region. Plus, it’s fun!
Things to See Together
When the weather’s nice, hike along forested trails to lovely waterfalls as they cascade down and in to rocky gorges. Small Falls, Cross Canyon, Angel Falls, and Cascade Stream Gorge Trail are a few hikes to try. Featuring four different waterfalls, Small Falls has lagoons for swimming too, while uniquely shaped rocks line the Coos Canyon and its waterfall. Don’t forget to pack a picnic lunch since many of the trail heads have picnic tables, and all the trails have lots of pretty picnic spots along the way.
Every visitor to Rangeley needs to visit Height of the Land at least once. Enjoy breathtaking, panoramic views of the surrounding forests and lakes, including Mooselookmeguntic and Richardson Lakes, as well as New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Hike or just take a quiet drive together along the Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway and enjoy the scenery from the comfort of your vehicle.
Stay In
Romance really depends on each person, what they’re like and what they like. Some of us love candy, flowers and mushy cards, while some of us hate all of that. Your romantic visit here will depend on the things you both love to do. The important thing is that you’re together.
Stay in, or at least in and around your rental cabin. If you’ve booked one of our waterfront rentals, enjoy an afternoon out on the water. Many of our cabins and lodges offer kayaks or canoes for the renter’s use if the weather’s warm. And most of our rentals have fire pits too, perfect for snuggling up and enjoying gooey s’mores (they’re not just for kids). And all of our rentals have decks and patios so you can enjoy the view and stargazing after a long day of snowshoeing through the forest.
Pack a few candles, all your favorite foods and beverages, a good book or two (because sometimes the Wi-Fi is slow), and your sweetie and get the romance started. And if you’ve forgotten a gift or card, don’t worry. Head in to town, and pick up what you need, whether it’s a few scented candles from Dee’s Place Rangeley Candle Co., or Ecopelagicon for gifts, puzzles to work in front of the fire later, or Maine products. You’ll probably need some maple syrup for pancakes in the morning!
Many of our rental cabins come with gourmet kitchens, so you can cook each other’s favorite foods, or stop off in town for take-out (try Parkside & Main Restaurant or The Shed). Dress up a bit and head out for a romantic dinner for two at Loon Lodge Inn or the 45th Parallel Wood Fired Grille (both great choices).
